When was the last time you played for the sake of having fun? When you laughed like a kid and got lost in enjoying the moment? Many adults are extremely play-deprived and some of us have even lost touch with the things that make us happy. In this episode, we speak with play coach Jeff Harry about why it’s so important to play and the benefits of having a play-oriented mindset. Here are some key points we will discuss:

  • What is play and why do we need it as adults?
  • What does it mean to be “in a state of flow” and how does this flow state correlate to our happiness?
  • What is our “inner voice” and why should we listen to it?
  • How does play stimulate creativity and innovation?
  • How can play lead us to more fulfilling careers?
  • How can the act of playing, for the enjoyment of it, connect us with our happiness, purpose & passion?

Tools for connecting to your “play”

  • Recall what you enjoyed doing as a 10-year old kid. There is likely a correlation with what you would enjoy doing now.
  • Get quiet. Ask yourself what sparks joy for you?
  • Get your friends together and ask what value you bring into their lives?
  • Follow your curiosity. Even if you don’t know where it will lead, just try something out that sounds interesting to you!
  • Ask yourself what make you different? What are your unique, perhaps quirky strengths? Find your “inner weird”!
